Caspian Arts Foundation £25,000 scholarship open for applications

MENA artists, photographers, designers or film-makers studying at one of London’s arts colleges could win a £25,000 scholarship to fund their studies.

The University of the Arts London Caspian Arts Foundation, which aims to promote unity between Middle Eastern cultures through the arts, has opened for applications for a second year. The scholarship will pay the winning student’s tuition fees while any remaining fund will be used for the student’s maintenance.

Caspian Arts Foundation founder Nina Mahdavi said there was a great shift taking place in the Middle Eastern art world: “Now at its turning point, this movement is being taken to its next level through the immense support it receives from both the artist and patron.

“Caspian Arts Foundation aims to contribute to this by supporting the next generation of artists from the MENA region and giving them the tools needed to develop to their full potential and making their own contributions to the world.”

Applicants must be high achieving and resident in or a citizen of a country in the Middle East or North Africa. The closing date for entries is 12pm on 5 July 2013.

Last year’s recipient, Palestinian-born Bisan Abu-Eisheh, said “By receiving the Caspian Arts Foundation Scholarship, my dream came true. A dream about having a proper education in London where I can use many diverse resources and have many interesting discussions that would develop my knowledge and skills as an artist and a human being.”
